Under the California Public Records Act § 6250 et seq., I request access to and copies of the following information in electronic, searchable/sortable format, where applicable. I am a freelance journalist engaged in the dissemination of information to the public.
I'm requesting a list of accidents, suicides, or any other incidents leading to the death of a person by a BART train (on tracks, at stations, but NOT inside train cars) from the year 2000 to 2010, with corresponding dates and names of the deceased where possible.
If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed $50. However, I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest. I am a representative of the news media, and the information requested will contribute significantly to public awareness and benefit the general public. This information is not being sought for commercial purposes.
The California Public Records Act requires a response within ten business days. If access to the records I am requesting will take longer, please contact me with information about when I might expect copies or the ability to inspect the requested records.
If you deny any or all of this request, please cite each specific exemption you feel justifies the refusal to release the information and notify me of the appeal procedures available to me under the law.
